New York AG reportedly working with Mueller in Manafort probe; Trump can't pardon state crimes

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is reportedly working with special counsel Robert Mueller in a probe of financial transactions involving Paul Manafort, a former campaign chairman for Donald Trump.
Investigators working with Mueller and Schneiderman have shared evidence, according to Politico, which based its story on information from anonymous sources. The Washington Post also confirmed the report.
The cooperation could provide leverage to win cooperation in Mueller’s broader Russia probe, Politico points out. President Trump could not pardon Manafort if he were charged and convicted of a state crime.
There has been no decision on charges, however, and “nothing is imminent,” a source told Politico.
The Post says the investigation is in an early stage, could be unrelated to Mueller’s probe of Russian influence, and could produce nothing. Manafort has denied wrongdoing.
