News reports: Law grad charged in bank robbery; state trooper shot during getaway
A 64-year-old man who is identified on several legal websites as a graduate of Washington University School of Law has been charged with robbing a Missouri bank on Friday morning and shooting a state trooper during his attempted getaway.
Warren Gladders was shot in both legs by the trooper, who pulled him over roughly 40 minutes after the robbery took place and returned fire after being shot by the suspect, authorities say. The trooper, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was treated for chest bruising, according to the Missourian and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Gladders is charged with robbery, possession of an illegal firearm (a sawed-off shotgun), armed criminal action and first-degree assault against a law enforcement officer in the Warren County case. He is being held in lieu of $500,000 cash-only bail.
Authorities said Gladders, wearing a mask and rubber gloves, pulled out a small black revolver during the Friday morning robbery at the First Bank of Dutzow and threatened to kill those in the bank if they did anything. He was apprehended after a customer’s wife, waiting outside in a car, saw the robbery and called authorities with a description of the getaway car.
Aside from traffic offenses, he has no prior criminal record.
