An Oklahoma newspaper publisher filed a libel suit against a competitor, after the rival publication refused to retract claims that the Tulsa World had inflated its circulation figures.

But the Urban Tulsa Weekly and its editor and publisher will now be dropped from the suit, because the weekly has agreed to a retraction, reports the Tulsa World. Columnist Michael Bates, who wrote the disputed article, remains a defendant.

“World Publisher Robert E. Lorton III said the matter was of critical concern to him because of scandals in recent years involving inflated circulation figures at other newspapers,” the World article explains. “Lorton said the World is very careful to provide its advertisers with accurate audited circulation and readership figures.”
