A small practitioner in Claremont, Calif., will reportedly be bringing in $50,000 per month for the next five years, under a five-year contract approved Tuesday by the Rialto city council. It is with the Law Offices of Jimmy Gutierrez.

"The retainer could exceed $600,000 per year when factoring in billable hours and other incidental legal costs," reports the Sun. However, the cost could be higher, the San Bernadino newspaper notes: "The city doesn't have an in-house attorney and has utilized more expensive firms in the past."

Recently, Best, Best and Krieger, in Riverside, has handled the city's legal work at a similar cost.

Why cut costs when you can just raise taxes?

Man, the government needs to be reined in.
