Nixon Peabody Cuts 20 Lawyers, 36 Staff Positions

Nixon Peabody is eliminating the jobs of 20 lawyers and 36 support staffers.

The law firm provided a statement announcing the layoffs to Above the Law.

“Prudent management of our business requires that we downsize our associate, legal support, and administrative ranks, with the result that 20 attorneys will be leaving the firm, and we will be reducing our staff by 36 people through a combination of staff reductions and the creation of new positions,” the statement said.

Above the Law notes that Nixon Peabody picked up around 90 Thelen lawyers in November and questions whether any of those laid off were in that group of laterals.

Wow, if you read the Nixon Peabody memo, it is clear that all 20 attorneys were “associates.”  These layoffs again illustrate how the ongoing waves of attorney layoffs are, indeed, mostly “associates.”  (Although this is contrary to Harvey BirdSmack’s uninformed comments of Friday, last).  Although Harvey often claims to have worked “Big Law” for some unspecified period before being drummed out, his lack of real knowledge of Big Law (and the quality of his writing skills) cast substantial doubt on the claim.  Read the articles.  See the “associates” departing.  Harvey does not know what he is talking about.
