An international wedding of two well-known law firms isn’t a match made in heaven.

But Cooley and Olswang plan to be close friends in a nonexclusive relationship, Legal Week reports.

“We have significant sector overlap and strong service line synergies,” says David Stewart, chief executive officer of the United Kingdom’s Olswang firm, of its new relationship with the Silicon Valley-based United States tech powerhouse.

“Both firms are keen to pursue this relationship given the increasing globalization of the business of our respective clients,” he continues, “and the increasing importance of technology and intellectual property to global businesses of all types.”

Each firm will refer matters to the other, and partners have been encouraged to form collaborative relationships. However, some details, such as potential joint training initiatives, have yet to be determined.
