Saying that Elisabeth Anne “Betty” Broderick was angry, unrepentant, lacked insight into her crime and posed a risk to society, a two-member board yesterday denied the 62-year-old parole in the shootings of her ex-husband, a prominent California attorney, and his new young wife, who worked as his legal assistant.

Sentenced to 32 years to life for the second-degree murders, Broderick could potentially apply again for parole in another three years, reports the Associated Press.

Delivering the decision to Broderick, Board of Prison Terms Commissioner Robert Doyle said he had never seen an inmate make so little progress toward taking responsibility for a crime, the news agency recounts.

“Your heart is still bitter, and you are still angry,” Doyle told her. “You show no significant progress in evolving. You are still back 20 years ago in that same mode. You’ve got to move on.”

As detailed in an earlier ABAJournal.com post, Broderick portrayed herself as a victim of her ex-husband, driven to murder by his relentless divorce litigation tactics.
