The managing partner of one of the largest law firms in upstate New York has confirmed that it is mulling a possible merger with Hiscock & Barclay, a 210-attorney regional firm that is also based in upstate New York.

“I described it to our people the other day as, ‘yes, we met, we’re dating, we are not engaged and we are not even close to getting married,” Peter Marlette of Damon Morey tells the Buffalo Law Journal.

If the two firms were to combine, they would have a total attorney roster of nearly 300 lawyers, including 115 in Buffalo, assuming no attrition, reports the Buffalo News.

Damon Morey is located in Buffalo and has branch offices in Clarence and Rochester. The Hiscock firm is headquartered in Syracuse and has other offices in five other New York locations: Boston; Newark, New Jersey; Washington, D.C.; and Toronto.
