Hurricane Ike has left many Houston residents without power and child care, and the city's lawyers are no exception. At Vinson & Elkins, lawyers coped by bringing their children to work.
The law firm turned its moot courtroom into a makeshift movie theater yesterday where SpongeBob SquarePants played on the big screen, the Houston Chronicle reports. The kids feasted on popcorn, pizza, candy and soda. Some of the teens may have been a little bored, though.
"I've seen every episode of this show," said Shannon Smith, a high school freshman whose mother is appellate lawyer Catherine Smith. She told the Chronicle was excited about the prospect of heading downtown for one reason: Air conditioning.
