NU Law Student, 32, Is Struck and Killed in Chicago Crosswalk; Driver Faces Felony DUI Case
Walking around the corner for a late-night snack from his apartment in Chicago’s trendy Old Town neighborhood, a Northwestern University law student was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Saturday.
Jesse Bradley was 32 years old.
A self-described Starbucks addict, he had taken the fall and spring terms off to think about what he wanted to do in life and worked part-time at one of the coffee chain’s locations on Rush Street. He like the job, which had given him “this new ability to talk to anyone,” his sister, Laura, told the Chicago Tribune.
Bradley expected to finish up at Northwestern this summer and go into a career in corporate law. Instead, police said, he was struck and killed at about 2:30 a.m. in a crosswalk on LaSalle and Division streets, by a southbound driver in a Jeep Liberty.
Police said they pulled over the vehicle, which had front-end damage, a few blocks away. Bianca Garcia, 21, faces charges including felony aggravated driving under the influence. She refused a field sobriety test and a breath test.
“It’s just bizarre. It really shows you how life can change in an instant,” Laura Bradley told the Trib. “He was healthy. He was living. And he died. He should not have died at 32.”
