A New York lawyer has filed a $1 million suit against Delta Air Lines that claims the carrier ruined a planned dream trip to Argentina for his mother’s 80th birthday.
The suit filed by litigator Richard Roth says he and his family arrived at their destination almost three days late, without their luggage, and had to spend thousands of dollars for food, hotels and a flight on a different airline, the Associated Press reports.
The suit says Roth and his family encountered Delta employees who were "nasty," "rude" and "obnoxious," and that the courteous employees couldn’t help him.
The trouble began when his flight to Atlanta was late, and a Delta employee refused to allow him on a connecting flight, even though the plane was at the gate with the door open, the suit says. A 20-year-old cousin’s daughter was on the flight and arrived in Argentina alone.
Roth told the New York Daily News he spent two days in Atlanta before learning the airline could not get his family to Argentina until Jan. 8, despite his original Dec. 20 departure date.
"This was going to be a dream trip for my mother to go back to her homeland," Roth told the Daily News. "I'm a litigator, and I sue people very easily, but I didn't want to sue. They didn't care when we left, they didn't care when we got there and they didn't care when we got back."

Way to Go! This happened to me last year. I had my son coming home from college on Spring Break and he was going to spend spring break with his twin at another college. Delta/United canceled his flight and then scheduled him for a much later flight which was too late to connect with his brother. We drove from Little Rock to Memphis to pick him up. The other flight was canceled also. We fought for months and ended up with $39.00 in refund. GIVE ME A BREAK! I continued to fight and got a $79.00 voucher, how generous!!! They only gave me that to make me go away. It is about time they be held accountable. Way to go and I hope he gets it I only wish I were in NY so I could sit on the jury.

side with Delta only because what the lawyer experienced is common in South America. You have to expect these glitches in that region which is why I will never take vacations there based on experience. Several years ago on business, I was scheduled to fly from Caracas to Buenos Aires, an 8 hour flight. The flight was cancelled at the last minute. I was rescheduled on an another flight that took me to Bogata, Quito, Lima, Sao Paolo and finally Buenos Aires 32 hours later. Another time I flew from Caracas to Maracaibo, but the flight stopped short of the destination and I took a 4 hour taxi ride to get where I was going. You have to roll with the punches to when traveing down there. I laugh now, but then I was a total wreck

Airline unions, FAA, & lawyers all deserve one another.
I stopped flying years ago.
I hope high fuel costs cause a colapse of the likes of these airlines.
