One of the writers for Fox TV’s Family Guy is a New York University law grad who says she studied law because of family pressure rather than a passion for the subject.

Cherry Chevapravatdumrong says the highlight of her law school career was writing skits and songs for the annual “Law Revue” musical comedy show, the Associated Press reports. When other graduates were studying for the bar exam, Chevapravatdumrong headed to California, where she took on a series of assistant jobs in an effort to break into television writing.

Chevapravatdumrong joined Family Guy in its fourth season. She has also written novels for teen girls, after getting the idea from her agent.

“The great thing about a show like Family Guy is that you can be doing a joke about post-impressionist art one second, gay marriage the next, and Jersey Shore the next,” she told AP. “Everything is fair game.”

“I have friends who are lawyers, and I’m pretty sure they don’t get paid to show up and make each other laugh all day.”
