Continuing with its ongoing expansion streak, a national employment boutique is about to establish a new office in New Orleans.

Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart will open its 35th office in New Orleans on May 1, the more than 450-attorney firm announces in a press release (PDF) today.

The managing partner there will be Mark Mallery, who is joining the firm from Kiesewetter Wise Kaplan Prather, where he is now a partner. One of the two associates opening the New Orleans office of Ogletree with Mallery is also on the Kiesewetter attorney roster.

“We’re excited to continue with our accelerated national expansion by bringing our services into New Orleans,” says managing partner Gary Geddie in the press release. “The city’s business community still is rebuilding after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the deep recession, and also must now deal with the significant new and forthcoming workplace laws and regulations. With Ogletree Deakins’ growing national presence, we believe we can make a beneficial contribution to the rebuilding of the business community in New Orleans and the entire Gulf region.”

As discussed in earlier ABAJournal.com posts, labor and employment law is a hot practice area, due to the need for legal advice generated by layoffs and other recession-related issues as well as recent federal legislation on which employers need to get up to speed.
