Ogletree Deakins to Plant Flag in Europe with Offices in London and Berlin
In what it says is the first such move by a U.S.-based firm specializing in labor and employment law, Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart has announced that it will soon be opening two offices in Europe.
Its new Berlin office, which is expected to open Dec. 1, will be staffed by a group of seven lawyers from Salans, the law firm explains in a Wednesday press release. It is headed by Hendrik Muschal, who co-chaired the labor and employment department at Salans. He will serve as managing shareholder of his new firm’s Berlin office.
The London office, which will be up and running soon afterward, is to be headed by founding partner Michael Webster of Webster Dixon.
The move is a significant step toward greater global practice by the Ogletree firm, which presently has no other international offices, according to its website.
“There is no question that today we all operate in a global marketplace,” said Kim Ebert, who serves as the firm’s managing shareholder, in the release.
“Our U.S. clients have expressed frustrations with the options for handling their employment law matters internationally, and we initiated our expansion in response to those concerns,” he continued. “Our strategy is to provide international representation that is focused on value and first-class client service, just as we provide domestically. We also expect that international clients with issues in the United States will take advantage of our domestic platform of 41 offices and more than 650 talented lawyers.”
