On trial in Kentucky for the murder of her husband, attorney Larry Gilliam, who was shot to death in his law office last year, Lisa Gilliam is arguing that his death was in fact a suicide.

The defense says Lisa Gilliam was in another area of the London office when Larry Gilliam, overwhelmed by personal issues including financial problems, shot himself, reports WKYT. She called 911 from the scene, screaming that her husband had been shot and was dying, and a photo of his desk shown by the defense to jurors shows sticky notes attached to money and other items, apparently in an effort to allocate his property to specific individuals.

The prosecution says the murder weapon was found in Lisa Gilliam’s desk.

And witnesses in the Laurel Circuit Court case testified that Larry Gilliam was in good spirits and looking ahead to a $3,775 trip to the Bahamas he had already paid for, in cash, shortly before his death, reports the News Journal.

The trial is expected to conclude later this week.
