One-Quarter of Paul Hastings’ Summer Associates Won’t Get an Offer

Early reports said only about half of Paul Hastings’ summer associates got job offers, but a firm spokeswoman says the news is better than that.
About 70 percent to 75 percent of the summer associates will get offers, a spokeswoman told Above the Law. Last year, the firm extended offers to about 90 percent of its summers, but it is trimming the numbers this year because of the economy, the spokeswoman said.
Some of the associates will begin work at the firm in the fall of 2010, and some will start in January 2011, the spokeswoman told Above the Law.
The American Lawyer says the trimmed-back offers are “in line with what other big firms are doing in light of the recession, including canceling next year's summer programs altogether and pushing back the start dates of their new hires.”

On another subject: It’s sad when the ABA Journal gets half its news from Above the Law. Kind of pitiful.

Not really half. I suppose it is well past time to recognize that ATL and its coverage are newsworthy and that ATL is performing a valuable service to anyone considering working in BigLaw (and providing entertainment for the rest of us),
