Onetime Billionaire Stanford Is Incompetent for Trial in $7B Fraud Case, Psychiatrist Says
Onetime billionaire R. Allen Stanford isn’t competent to stand trial on Jan. 24 in a $7 billion investment fraud case because of a “major depressive disorder” and a traumatic brain injury he suffered in a jailhouse beating, a defense psychiatrist testified today.
Dr. Victor Scarano also told a federal judge in Houston that the 60-year-old defendant also is addicted to an anti-anxiety medication, reports Bloomberg.
“He is not able to work effectively, rationally with his attorneys to develop a defense against the charges,” said Scarano.
