One of the world’s biggest law firms has raided the Paris office of Proskauer Rose, snatching up seven lawyers to boost its French operations.

News of the DLA Piper raid, which was reported today by Legal Week, follows word from another United Kingdom legal publication that the more than 3,600-attorney firm has just added 69 more partners worldwide by promoting lawyers within its existing ranks. That is an all-time record number of new partners, according to the firm.

The majority of those promotions—20 partners in all—were in the firm’s United Kingdom offices, according to the Lawyer. A total of 12 lawyers were promoted in the London office. Among cities in the United States, the largest number of new partners was promoted in the DLA Piper’s Washington, D.C., office, which scored six, followed by five each in Chicago and San Diego, and four in Palo Alto, reports the Lawyer.

Former Proskauer litigation partner Emmanuelle Payrau-Sorba will now head the firm’s litigation and regulatory practice in Paris.

DLA Piper reportedly now has some 3,600 lawyers in 64 offices in 25 countries. Proskauer, which is headquartered in New York, has about 700 attorneys.

Apparently giving a headcount after the raid, the Legal Intelligencer reported earlier this week in an article about a new Paris office being opened by 1,500-lawyer K&L Gates that DLA Piper has about 40 lawyers in its Paris office.

According to Legal Week, DLA Piper is still looking for additional lawyers to add to its Paris attorney roster.
