Oops. Legal strategy emails were sent by Guardian Angels founder to his ex-wife, her lawyer says
Lawyers for Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa and his girlfriend had accused his ex-wife, Mary Sliwa of intercepting his legal strategy emails last year and sharing them with her lawyer in a hard-fought child-support case.
But Sliwa forgot that he had automatically blind-copied his wife on Guardian Angels correspondence for years and didn’t change the email routing when they became opposing parties in a family law case, her lawyer told a New York judge on Tuesday. Hence, attorney Paul Siegert said, Curtis Sliwa has no one to blame but himself for the fact that his ex was aware of what he and his lawyer were thinking as they pursued the Manhattan Supreme Court case, the New York Daily News reports.
Meanwhile, counsel for Sliwa and his girlfriend, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, pointed the finger at Siegert. “Mr. Siegert had a professional obligation not to read those emails and to advise me that she was intercepting them since at least August 2013,” said Alton Abramowitz, who represents Curtis Sliwa. He is seeking to disqualify Siegert from continuing to represent Mary Sliwa.
Curtis Sliwa is earning some $400,000 annually in a new job as a radio show host.
