It isn't just some lenders seeking to foreclose on delinquent homeowners who are struggling to figure out where to find the right real estate records.
A bail bond business and a federal court in Florida likely will have a tough time collecting on the home that a now-fugitive defendant's mom put up to secure his $100,000 bail, reports the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
That's because Janiber Viera isn't on the deed for the Coral Springs home she used as collateral in July to get her Boynton Beach police officer son, David Britto, out of jail. He has since fled to Brazil and hence was a no-show on Tuesday as his federal trial on methamphetamines-trafficking charges began in Miami.
Janiber Viera's husband, Mariorlando Vieira, is on the deed and says the couple will sell the house to pay the bond costs. But there's a problem with that plan, too, the newspaper notes. While the home is worth perhaps $200,000, real estate records show it is already encumbered with a $250,000 home-equity loan.
