Former Las Vegas Judge Elizabeth Halverson, who was ousted from her position after battling with staff, has died at the age of 56.

Halverson, who had resumed using her maiden name, Elizabeth LaMacchia, died on March 1, the Associated Press reports, citing information from her death certificate. The wire service was unable to reach Halverson’s relatives for more information.

Ethics charges were pending against Halverson when she failed to win re-election in 2008. The Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission later issued an opinion finding that Halverson had slept during portions of three jury trials, had improper contacts with two juries, was disrespectful toward staff and made improper statements to the press.

She divorced her husband, Edward Halverson, after he was sentenced to prison for hitting her with a frying pan.
