Paintball Suit Seeks Warnings

A man whose wife was killed in a paintball accident says a successor manufacturer has not lived up to a promise to publicize the dangers of older equipment.

Mark Contois plans to file a complaint today in a California court seeking to force KEE Action Sports to do more to alert the public about the dangers of an older paint gun design, the New York Times reports.

Contois’ wife died after his son accidentally detached a carbon-dioxide-filled cylinder, causing it to launch. It struck and killed Colette Contois, who was watching from the sidelines.

Mark Contois learned in his lawsuit against the original manufacturer, National Paintball Supply, that a boy died in a similar accident, and manufacturers had known of possible danger. The suit settled for $8 million.
