A paralegal and her husband have been indicted on charges of embezzling more than $1 million from the Texas law firm where she also served as office manager.

Rosanne Stogner was accused of making out law firm checks to herself, her husband Michael, his fence company and even her daughter’s personal trainer, the El Paso Times reports. She worked at the El Paso law firm Oaxaca, Bernal & Associates from 2001 to 2007.

A lawyer for Michael Stogner, Michael Gibson, told the El Paso Times that charges were filed after Rosanne Stogner turned down a plea deal that called for 40 years in prison. The lengthy sentence is similar to that given murder defendants in plea bargains, he said.
