A burglar has stolen an estimated $2 million in jewelry and other items from the unoccupied home of Paris Hilton in Hollywood Hills, Calif.

The actress and hotel heiress wasn't home at the time of the burglary, which apparently was perpetrated by a lone individual at around 5 a.m., according to surveillance footage, reports the Los Angeles Times.

It isn't clear, however, that there is any link to a series of about 70 burglaries last year by a team of men in which celebrities were targeted, the newspaper writes.

"Giving a detailed, nationally televised tour of the inside of her Hollywood Hills home was probably Paris Hilton's first mistake. Failing to then invest in a top-notch home security system was likely her second," reports E! Online, referring to an apparent YouTube video in which Hilton's home is reportedly featured.

And failing to have a custom safe made was the final mistake.

Nothing like having trusted live security with guns on site, with ties to extradition firms.
