Large law firms are seeking to boost their New York offices by relocating partners and big rainmakers there from other locations.

In one of the latest such moves, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges is relocating former Stanford law dean Kathleen Sullivan to New York to build an appellate practice there, the New York Law Journal reports.

Other firms that have taken the tack include London-based Linklaters, which moved mergers-and-acquisitions partner Nick Rees to New York, and Chicago-based Kirkland & Ellis, which moved litigation partner David Bernick from Chicago to the Big Apple.
