Partners have approved the merger of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal and U.K. law firm Denton Wilde Sapte.

Yesterday’s vote was unanimous, according to a press release. The new firm, SNR Denton, will have more than 1,400 lawyers and professionals in 18 countries, making it one of the world’s top 25 law firms based on headcount. Legal Week and The Lawyer also had the story.

The planned merger, set to take place on Sept. 30, was announced last month. Sonnenschein chairman Elliott Portnoy will share CEO duties with Denton CEO Howard Morris.

Portnoy told the ABA Journal last month that there are no plans for layoffs or office closings. “This isn’t about cost reduction or achieving efficiencies, this is about meeting our clients’ needs,” he said. “We’ve already identified dozens and dozens of specific opportunities where we believe together we can meet the needs of our clients in a more efficient, high-quality way than either of us could do alone.”
