Two longtime friends and law partners have split up their Memphis, Tenn., firm after deciding that their two practice areas–matrimonial law and a business and commercial litigation practice, including mass torts–just weren’t a good fit.

Crone & Mason has disbanded, as of April 1, and name partner Alan Crone has formed a new firm with Bruce Kramer, which will be known as Kramer & Crone, reports the Memphis Business Journal. Crone will serve as managing partner of the six-attorney Memphis firm.

Meanwhile, Mason formed his own Miles Mason Family Law Group with the firm’s four matrimonial attorneys and five paralegals. It will maintain the former Crone & Mason offices in Memphis and Brentwood, Tenn.

“He wanted to brand himself as a family law firm,” says Crone of his partner, and, “from a business sense, it just made sense.”
