Woman's pause before agreeing to release conditions keeps her behind bars
Ivory Jordan was moments from being released from custody on Thursday, after her mother attended a court hearing for the 21-year-old and promised to keep an eye on her daughter.
Circuit Judge James L. Martz told Jordan he was going to give her a “huge break” by releasing her, under adult supervision, with an 8:30 p.m. curfew. But then, when the judge asked Jordan if she agreed to those conditions, there was a pause before she said yes, the Palm Beach Post reports.
Martz asked again for Jordan’s agreement, saying that the pause made him worry he was making a mistake, and the young woman again told him yes, in a barely audible voice.
At that point, the judge shook his head and said he wasn’t going to release Jordan because of her attitude, the newspaper recounts. Although her mother pleaded for him to reconsider, Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies escorted Jordan back to a holding cell after the judge set a $50,000 bond.
She faces charges including burglary, false imprisonment and simple battery after allegedly forcibly entering a home to attack another woman over a text message.
