Penn State says it will pay $60M to 26 Sandusky victims
Penn State has announced it will pay nearly $60 million to 26 sexual abuse victims of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.
The amount was reported this summer, but the university at that time did not confirm the figure and number of victims. The New York Times, the Legal Intelligencer and the Patriot-News are among the publications reporting on the deal announced on Monday.
Confidentiality agreements prevent the release of details about individual settlements. The university says liability insurance is expected to cover the payout; a court fight with its primary insurer continues, the Patriot-News says.
The university says the settlement will cover all but six sexual-abuse claims. Some of those claims were deemed without merit and some are still in settlement discussions.
Sandusky was convicted last year of sexually abusing 10 boys.
