The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has blocked any charges against Attorney General Kathleen Kane as it considers her challenge to the appointment of a special prosecutor who led an investigation of her.

The court on Thursday issued a stay of any prosecution stemming from grand jurors’ recommendations in the case, which involves a leak of grand jury information. The New York Times, the Pennlive.com and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette have stories.

Kane contends state law did not give a judge authority to appoint a special prosecutor. Oral arguments in the case are scheduled for March 11.

Documents released on Tuesday show the grand jury recommended Kane be charged with perjury, false swearing, official oppression and obstruction. Another document, released on Thursday, says grand jurors also concluded that the grand jury secrecy law was violated by a disclosure to the news media.

Kane has said she disclosed some information to the Philadelphia Daily News but didn’t know it may have included documents presented to grand jurors.
