Philly Firms WolfBlock and Drinker Biddle Said to Cut Associates

Pennsylvania may be more insulated from Wall Street’s woes, but that apparently hasn’t stopped two Philadelphia-based law firms from cutting associates.

On Friday, WolfBlock laid off 15 associates and Drinker Biddle & Reath laid off about 20 lawyers, according to the blog Above the Law. The Legal Intelligencer sought to confirm the report, but a Drinker Biddle spokesman refused to comment and WolfBlock did not return a phone call.

Legal consultant Ward Bower of Altman Weil told the Intelligencer that more associate layoffs may be coming after the holidays.

If you cut them, do they not bleed?  I guess the consultant who thought 2008 layoffs were over must have been wrong.
