The mug shot of a convicted felon facing new felony weapons and gang-related charges has gone viral.

Jeremy Meeks’ arrest photo, posted Wednesday on the Stockton, Calif., police department’s Facebook page, had garnered more than 60,000 “likes” and more than 17,000 comments by midday Friday.

The photo, which has been shared more than 7,000 times, has drawn raves about the suspect’s high cheekbones, chiseled face and piercing blue eyes, the Associated Press reports.

No previous arrest photo has drawn so much attention since the department began posting mug shots on Facebook more than two years ago, department spokesman Joseph Silva said.

“I have not seen that many likes for a photo before,” he said.

Meeks, 30, was arrested Wednesday in a law enforcement sweep of a Stockton neighborhood beset by a recent increase in robberies and shootings. Police said he is a convicted felon, though they declined to say what he was previously convicted of.

However, Silva described Meeks as “one of the most violent criminals” in the Stockton area.

Meeks, who is being held on $900,000 bail, was scheduled for arraignment Friday afternoon.
