Photos of a bloodied Tsarnaev are released by cop angered over Rolling Stone cover
A police photographer has released photos of a bloodied Dzhokhar Tsarnaev because he believed Rolling Stone was “glamorizing the face of terror” with its cover photo of the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings.
Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Sean Murphy says he released the photos of Tsarnaev’s capture because he wanted to show “the real Boston bomber. Not someone fluffed and buffed for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.” The photos are available here at Boston Magazine’s Boston Daily Blog. The Boston Globe and the New York Times have stories.
“The truth is that glamorizing the face of terror is not just insulting to the family members of those killed in the line of duty, it also could be an incentive to those who may be unstable to do something to get their face on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine,” Murphy said in his statement to Boston Magazine. “What Rolling Stone did was wrong. This guy is evil.”
Murphy was relieved of duty on Thursday for releasing the images without permission. He faces a hearing next week.
