Lots of law firms advertise directly on social networking sites. But California-based Kershaw Cutter & Ratinoff promotes the personal injury and class action firm’s online reputation indirectly.

“Our goal with social media is to listen to what people are saying and respond appropriately,” says partner Bill Kershaw in a press release reprinted on the San Francisco Chronicle’s website. “And considering the economic times we’re in right now, a lot of people are struggling. It just seems right to use this opportunity to help make sure everyone in Sacramento can enjoy the holiday season.”

For every new fan who “likes” the firm’s Facebook page, the firm will donate $5 to a food pantry during the Thanksgiving season, promises the status update on Kershaw Cutter’s timeline on Twitter. Apparently prepared for a big response, the firm has capped its donations at $5,000.
