A plea deal is near for a boy, now 9, who is accused of shooting his father and another man to death at the family’s home, according to his attorney.

Details aren’t specified, but “We aren’t going to sign him up for prison. We would never do that,” attorney Benjamin Brewer tells the Associated Press.

Although the boy, then age 8, reportedly admitted murdering his father, among differing accounts he gave when being questioned by police shortly after the November killings, his confession was thrown out.
