A 14-year-old Florida youth has been arrested after allegedly entering into a murder contract with a friend and then leaving the document in his room, where his father found it.

Port St. Lucie police say the agreement between the unidentified teen and a friend said the friend was to get $1,200 for killing the youth’s father, stepmother and stepbrother in a burglary-gone-bad scenario. The teen was to stay in his room during the crime, then go to a neighbor’s house to call 911, according to the Associated Press and the Washington Post] (reg. req.).

Arrested Sunday, the suspect has been charged as a juvenile with attempting to solicit murder. His friend reportedly told authorities that he thought the contract was a joke.

“We have to take things like this seriously, because you have the intimacy of family,” police spokesman Frank Sabol told the Post. “They have total access to each other and you want to make sure if something like this comes to light, we want to make sure it doesn’t occur and that you take appropriate action.”
