Police are investigating the possibility that a Chicago lawyer who was run over by his golf cart could have been the victim of a homicide.

Lawrence Schad died on Nov. 10, three days after the cart ran over him, pinning him beneath it. Police had said he was playing solo when the incident occurred in suburban Skokie, Ill.

Now a police spokesman says authorities haven’t ruled out homicide, the Chicago Tribune reports. “Obviously with something of this magnitude we have to cover all angles,” Officer Joe Marzigliano told the newspaper.

Schad’s law partner, Stephen Diamond, told the Tribune that the possibility of foul play had crossed his mind. “I only can say that from my experience golf carts don’t start up and run over people by themselves,” Diamond said. Schad was a partner in the class-action firm Schad, Diamond & Shedden, according to a prior Chicago Tribune story.

His practice included consumer-protection litigation, securities fraud claims and whistle-blower cases, according to the firm’s website.
