Police ID Getaway Car in NYC Law Student Slaying
Police in New York City have reportedly identified the getaway car used by a suspect who was caught on surveillance camera footage this week shooting to death a California law student in Midtown Manhattan who was visiting the Big Apple for unknown reasons.
However, the Lincoln MKX was a rental car, and the couple who rented it from an agency in Queens are not suspected in the slaying of Brandon Woodard, 31, according to the Associated Press, the Daily Mail and the New York Daily News.
Although the city’s police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, says the driver of the Lincoln that took the shooter away from the scene of the Monday afternoon slaying, near Central Park, hasn’t been identified, the Daily News, relying on unnamed sources, reports that detectives believe they know who the driver was. The car was found, parked in Queens, after police tracked it down using high-tech license plate readers, with the help of other surveillance cameras that showed it driving through the Midtown Tunnel to Queens, the AP reports.
Kelly says police, who have searched Woodard’s condo in California, are still investigating to try to determine a possible motive. But the Daily News, relying on an unnamed police source, reports that authorities are looking into two leads, both of which involve money that was supposed to go to drug dealers in New York but wasn’t paid in full.
