Police say suspect in lawyer's murder may have robbed bank; local airport is blocked during search
A man charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of a prominent Boston Scientific in-house lawyer may have resurfaced in a bank robbery over the weekend.
Lyle Marvin “Ty” Hoffman seemingly vanished into thin air for weeks after Kelly Phillips was shot to death at a gas station outside Minneapolis last month. But police in Blaine, Minnesota, say the 44-year-old Hoffman is a suspect in the armed robbery of a TCF Bank branch there on Sunday afternoon, the Star Tribune reports. A surveillance photo of the alleged robber shows a man who looks like Hoffman.
As of Tuesday, all entrances to the Anoka County-Blaine Airport were blocked as law enforcement officers from multiple agencies searched for Hoffman there. Someone who looks like the murder suspect was spotted in the vicinity early Tuesday, the newspaper says. KAAL reports that Hoffman, who is an ex-boyfriend of Phillips, at one point took flying lessons there.
At last report, a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Phillips’ murderer had reached $25,000.
