A Dallas lawyer is in a medically induced coma after suffering skull fractures in a severe beating last Friday just blocks from his home.

Dallas police are asking the public for information about the beating of lawyer Damien Falgoust, report 5NBCDFW.com, the Dallas Morning News Crime Blog and the Dallas Observer.

Falgoust, 39, was injured after spending the evening at a pub with teammates from his kickball league. Family and friends told the Crime Blog he may have been celebrating the possibility of a new job at a law firm after an interview earlier in the day.

Matt Corcoran told the Crime Blog that Falgoust was “super excited” about the job interview. “Damien normally doesn’t get that excited about that stuff—he’s usually on the pessimistic side—but he was ecstatic,” Corcoran said.

Falgoust left the pub in a taxi at about 1:30 a.m. Friday and was found unconscious on the street about a half hour later, according to 5NBCDFW.com. Relatives and friends told the Crime Blog he may have left the cab before arriving home to grab a slice of pizza. Robbery is not a suspected motive because Falgoust still had his cellphone and wallet.

Falgoust’s LinkedIn page says he formerly worked at FisherBroyles; MetroPCS Communications; and McGuire, Craddock & Strother. The Crime Blog says Falgoust was a partner at FisherBroyles and had played a significant role in the $1.3 billion initial public offering by MetroPCS in 2007.

Preston Bernhisel, a senior associate at Baker Botts, had worked with Falgoust on MetroPCS matters. He told the Crime Blog that Falgoust was “patient and understanding with me as a young associate just starting to practice law.”
