A prosecuting attorney for a South Carolina town has been arrested based on accusations he dismissed charges in exchange for sexual favors.

Union prosecuting attorney William “Billy” Whitney Jr., 65, was charged with misconduct in office, report the State, the Union Daily Times, the Spartanburg Herald Journal and Fox Carolina.

Whitney had served as city attorney for 17 years. He recently submitted a letter announcing his resignation “due to certain health issues.”
