It all began with a “rather revealing dress” a woman wore to court, a Lincoln County deputy district attorney told the Oregon State Bar in a letter.

In a phone call with the woman, from whom Rand Overton was trying to collect child support, “I said something about her wearing the dress and then I made the comment that if she did maybe I would get lucky and she would forget to wear underwear,” he continues.

Those comments eventually resulted in a guilty plea today by the 58-year-old prosecutor to two counts of first-degree official misconduct. He was sentenced to 30 days followed by two years of probation, during which time he cannot work as a government lawyer, reports the Oregonian.

The woman, Sheila Snyder, complained to the county that Overton had asked her to come see him “not wearing any underwear.” He told the state bar he was just trying to be funny.

However, he was indicted on the official misconduct counts (as well as two counts of coercion, which have since been dropped), for allegedly using his position to attempt to obtain sex.
