Prosecutor Refuses to Prosecute Man with Two Wives Because Second Marriage Is Outside State
A Florida prosecutor has declined to prosecute a man for bigamy because one of his marriages is allegedly outside the state.
The man’s Florida wife, Heather Maria Bennett of Orlando, tells the Florida Sun Sentinel she discovered last year that her husband is also married to a woman in Las Vegas. The husband was arrested on a charge of bigamy last October and released on bond.
The Orange County State’s Attorney’s office declined to prosecute in June. A spokesperson told the Sun Sentinel that the matter is outside the state’s jurisdiction and the paperwork has been forwarded to Nevada.
