A murder suspect briefly escaped custody in Chicago bond court Friday, but was tackled outside the courtroom by a speedy prosecutor as spectators applauded.

“Get him! Get him!” shouted Judge Peggy Chiampas. Deshawn Johnson, 26, sprinted out the door of Courtroom 101 at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse. The judge had just ordered Johnson held without bail.

But Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Barry Quinn, clad in a gray pinstriped business suit, was right behind Johnson, at first grabbing the defendant’s coat and then taking him to the hallway floor, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

“I started feeling all these bodies on top of me,” said Quinn, referring to the sheriff’s deputies who piled on after he brought Johnson down.

An earlier CBS Chicago story gives more details about the murder case Johnson faces.
