Prosecutor's CLE-Entry Typo Leads to Mistrial Request in Child-Murder Case

However, a typographical error in entering one of the CLE course numbers led to his law license being shifted to inactive status by the state bar. After a sharp-eyed newspaper reader commented that the assistant Miami-Dade County state attorney was not shown as active on an Internet listing, defense counsel in an ongoing child-murder case asked for a mistrial, the Miami Herald reports.
“Whether he’s suspended for small or humongous violation, it’s still a suspension,” said attorney Michael Matters, who represents defendant Geralyn Graham. “It’s absolutely inappropriate, unethical and wrong. There is no justification for someone practicing law without a license.”
Graham, a foster mom, is accused of murdering 4-year-old Rilya Wilson a decade ago.
At last report, Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez had not ruled on the mistrial request.
