Prosecutors to seek death penalty in case of girl who starved to death
Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against the father and stepmother of a 10-year-old Georgia girl who weighed only 32 pounds when her body was found in a trash bin.
Gwinnett County prosecutors say Emani Moss died from starvation and the treatment constitutes torture meriting the death penalty, report the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB-TV. An autopsy found no evidence that the child had been beaten, but found she died of starvation and neglect before her body was burned and placed in the trash bin, according to a previous story by the Journal-Constitution.
The child’s father and stepmother, Eman and Tiffany Moss, have been charged with murder, felony murder, concealing a death and child cruelty, according to coverage of the indictment by the Gwinnett Daily Post. The indictment accuses the couple of inflicting “cruel and excessive physical and mental pain by withholding necessary sustenance to sustain human life.”
