A prosecutor in the Public Integrity Division of the Los Angeles district attorney’s office is being criticized for asking a law firm representing witnesses in a criminal case to hire her nephew, a recent law school graduate.

In an email last month, Deputy District Attorney Juliet Schmidt told the firm that case law “might exonerate” its clients in a malpractice claim, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Then she told the firm about her nephew, the newspaper says.

“I spoke to him and he is very interested in legal malpractice and would love the opportunity to join your firm,” wrote Schmidt in the May 17 email. “Please let me know if there is a possibility that he could get hired by your firm.”
