The fallout over a finding that Qualcomm Inc. and its attorneys committed “aggravated litigation abuse” continues.

Day Casebeer Madrid & Batchelder represented Qualcomm in two cases. One is a patent dispute with Broadcom that led to the abuse finding and a request for sanctions. The second is a patent dispute with Nokia.

The firm has now been dropped from both cases, the Recorder reports. Day Casebeer spokesman Mark Fabiani says the law firm asked to be taken off the Nokia case.

“The firm felt that, while a sanctions motion was pending against Qualcomm in a case involving the firm, Qualcomm’s best interests were served by the substitution of new counsel in the Nokia matter,” he said.

Qualcomm has hired Cooley Godward Kronish as its new law firm in the Nokia case.
