A major West Coast business litigation boutique today announced that it is opening a Washington, D.C., office. It will initially be staffed largely by two practice leaders and another partner from Alston & Bird’s office there.

Paul Brinkman, Alex Lasher and Alan Whitehurst will be joining Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan soon, the 475-attorney law firm announced in a press release e-mailed to the ABA Journal.

The three will be joined in the new D.C. office by longtime Quinn Emanuel partner Jon Corey, who will move from Los Angeles to serve as managing partner of the new office.

Brinkman headed the international trade and regulatory practice group at Alston & Bird, and Whitehurst led the firm’s intellectual property practice in Washington, D.C. Brinkman and Lasher regularly appear before the International Trade Commission, while Whitehurst’s practice focuses on U.S. District Court.

“We have been studying the idea of opening an office in Washington for years,” says John Quinn, the firm’s managing partner, in the release. “However, we wanted to make sure we had the right focus and the right people to carry out our plan. We finally found the right team.”
