Thirty-four members of the Latin Kings street gang in the Chicago area were charged with racketeering conspiracy in federal indictments unveiled on Tuesday.

The indictments allege gang members commit murder and use threats, intimidation and violence to preserve their power and discipline members, the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times report.

According to the indictment, the gang’s activities extended to efforts to keep gang members out of prison. Violence and intimidation were used against witnesses and victims, and dues collected by the gang were used to post bail and hire attorneys, the indictment alleges.
